What to do when you see a mountain lion

At 10:50 am this Sunday morning, a mountain lion was seen in the vicinity of the
1750 block of Cordilleras Road in Redwood City. The mountain lion was traveling
uphill from a creek area in an area of open acreage. Sheriff's Deputies responded
to the area to investigate and found tracks. Currently, no additional
information is available.

If you see a mountain lion DO NOT APPROACH IT, especially one that is feeding or
with kittens. Most mountain lions will try to avoid confrontation.

Here are a few tips:

Avoid hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active—dawn, dusk, and at
night.

Keep a very close watch on small children.

If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run; instead, face the animal, make
noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects.

Pick up small children.
